Benefits of Abdominal Massage

Abdominal massage enhances elimination of toxins by stimulating lymph flow and digestive elimination. It relieves low back tension caused by muscular or fascial restrictions in the abdomen. It can help ease menstrual discomfort. Abdominal massage is great for breaking up scar tissue from abdominal surgeries such as hysterectomies, C-sections, appendectomies and tummy tucks. Abdominal massage also stimulates the production of neurotransmitters in the brain (endorphins & serotonin) which stimulate the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, and adrenals which cause secretions of the hormones FSH, TSH and adrenaline. Interestingly, abdominal massage increases synthesis of serotonin in the GI tract. Seretonin is thought to play a role in our mental health. At one time modern medicine was treating depression by focusing on serotonin in the brain. (Read article here.)
